Delante de la cara
Delante de la cara, is a research through the role of garments in gender construction. How the performativity of garments, that from the repetition of patterns, produce subjectivities. Being a women as a result of these performativities and the possibilities under the uncontrollable repetition.
This research has different pathways of experimentation, one would be the garment’s structure, another the textile, and finally its different appearances and shows of the resulting pieces. All of them arising from its perfomance essence and will.
Paint my own skin, is an action developed from the metaphor of me being my own mask. For that, I’ve painted my own skin to delimitate the bounds for the garments and also I’ve painted different garments with different parts of my body. With this exercise I’ve tried to transfer my skin to the fabric and my body to the garments.
With this intention I’ve chose different skin tones fabrics to paint with black ink. Then I draw different parts of my body, they’re not chosen randomly, those have sensitive meaning for me.
I’ve paint 6 times by body under one order, delimitate your body. The repetition of this act gives me the boundaries for 6 different interior garments of the collection.
In the end the cracks from my body stays at the garment and it became cracks from the garment to other bodies.
Delante de la cara piece’s where developed due to overlap them on the body: firstly, a skin tone underwear result of Paint my own skin experimentation; secondly, a monochrome (red or black) layer of garments, which result of the pattern making experimentation of second hand male or female gender associated iconic garments, I called this action Abruptosidades here you can see some documentation of it; finally, different materials hand knitted accessories that bind us to the body.

The serie of underwear garments of Delante de la cara were selected for the exhibition: Vestir i Desvestir Cossos: Fenomenologies d’Aparició (Dress and undress bodies: Phenomenologies of appearance), at Centre d’Art La Panera (Lleida) and Museo Can Marfà (Mataró), curated by Maia Creus and Oriol Ocaña, both happening along 2016.
